Budapest (MTI) – The first designated area in Budapest available to migrants opened in the underpass near Keleti railway station on Saturday, the municipal council’s chief law enforcement officer said.
Gyorgy Peto said the council ensures the availability of basic hygiene and medical services in the designated area. It is not possible to make migrants disappear from the city’s pavements and public spaces overnight but opening such transit areas makes it possible to reduce their presence outside them, he added.
Similar designated areas are planned to be opened at the Nyugati and Deli train stations, Peto said earlier this week.
