Budapest prepares for one of the world’s biggest fireworks shows for 20 August – 6 days of celebrations ahead

Festivities for the 20 August national holiday celebrating Hungary’s statehood will begin on 16 August and span six days, the state secretary for international communication and relations said on Thursday. The highlight of the festivities will be the traditional evening fireworks display and drone show over the Danube, Zoltán Kovács said.
The St. Stephen’s Day celebrations in Budapest will offer visitors hundreds of programmes across 19 locations on both sides of the Danube, Kovács said.
Ferenc Tóth, chief executive of NUVU, the company organising the 20 August fireworks show, said 46,000 pyrotechnic effects will be launched from Liberty, Elisabeth and Margaret bridges as well as river barges and pontoons during the 30-minute display.
“This will be one of the world’s biggest fireworks shows, not just because of the pyrotechnics that will be used, but also in terms of the length of the display area,” Kovács said.
