Budapest’s Várkert Bazaar announces dazzling Advent 2025 programme – photos

As winter settles over the Danube, the Várkert Bazaar is once again transforming into one of Budapest’s most festive cultural hotspots. This Advent, the historic venue at the foot of Buda Castle launches an ambitious programme of seasonal events, promising candle-lit concerts, artisan markets, nostalgic exhibitions, and family-friendly events, all with a distinctly Hungarian flair.
A festive season for all ages
Announced at a press conference on 11 November, the Várkert Bazaar’s 2025 Advent programme reaffirms its status as a leading light in Hungary’s cultural calendar. Spearheaded by Krisztina Sikota, Deputy CEO of Castle Headquarters, the schedule draws on tradition, contemporary performance, and community spirit to mark the countdown to Christmas.
As in years past, each Advent weekend will be marked by the lighting of a new candle on the Bazaar’s ceremonial wreath, symbolising hope, peace and love. Alongside this, the Várkert Bazaar will host a curated selection of concerts and performances, bringing festive joy to visitors of all ages in Budapest.

Musical highlights at Várkert Bazaar
Singer-songwriter Zóra, a Hungarian-American talent based in Los Angeles, returns to the Várkert Bazaar stage on 20 December, her only Budapest appearance this year. Following the success of her previous sold-out shows at the venue, she’s bringing a refreshed sound and celebrated collaborators—including bassist Miles Jay and trumpeter Lőrinc Barabás—for two exclusive concerts titled “One Night, One Feeling, One Voice.”
On 7 December, Budapest Bár promises a double-concert blending gipsy swing, rock and nostalgic melodies, with a star-studded lineup featuring Frenk, Mező Misi, Kiss Tibor and others. Similarly, StEfrem Férfikar’s choral performance on 21 December will offer solemn harmonies in Fény a fényből, ahead of their Christmas album launch.
Szebényi Dániel kicks off the main concert series on 29 November with his Újratervezés album debut, while Ivan & The Parazol brings raw rock’n’roll energy on 27 December, fresh from their international tour.
The programme culminates in a tradition: Random Trip’s pre-New Year’s Eve supergroup concert “A hangok szabadsága” on 30 December, followed by DJ Metha’s Be Massive party, ushering in 2026 with a distinctly electronic sound.

Artisan fairs and family days
Beyond its musical offerings, the Várkert Bazaar also celebrates Hungarian craftsmanship. On 12–14 and 19–21 December, the De la Motte–Beer Palace will host a high-end artisan market, spotlighting contemporary Hungarian design and heritage craft. Visitors can shop for jewellery, felt ornaments, and graphics, meet the artists, and even take part in live workshops organised by the Rearticon Applied Arts Association.
Meanwhile, families can create their own festive memories. Every Advent Sunday from 10am to 3pm, children and parents can make wreaths and decorations together in the event hall’s foyer. On 6 December, St Nicholas himself will appear during a “Mikulásváró” (Awaiting Santa) family day , which includes a lively concert by Kolompos and a puppet musical, Kippkopp a hóban.
Step into a Budapest winter wonderland
The Várkert Bazaar isn’t just about entertainment—it offers immersive historical experiences too. The popular Sisi karácsonya walking tours transport visitors back to Empress Elisabeth’s courtly Christmases in Budapest. A new open-air exhibition, Legyen ünnep a Földön! – Retro teleink világa, set along the Gloriette ramp, explores Hungarian winter traditions from the latter half of the 20th century through artefacts curated by the Hungarian Museum of Trade and Tourism.
Adding to the atmosphere, the Bazaar’s “Halászó gyerekek” terrace will be adorned with festive lights, a giant tree, and a traditional wooden nativity scene. From 27 November to 11 January, passersby can enjoy grilled Christmas fare and warming drinks amid the season’s festive ambiance.

A concert hall of culture
From jazz-folk fusions by the Sárik Péter Trio and Koszika on 30 November, to the Modern Art Orchestra’s 20th anniversary gala featuring Harcsa Veronika on 28 December, the Várkert Bazaar proves again it is far more than a venue—it is a cultural powerhouse.
Even literature takes the stage, with the Aposztróf literary night on 18 December featuring artists like Gubik Petra, Mező Misi, and Kollár-Klemencz László, who will share stories and songs inspired by the season.
Be it a moment of reflection or spirited celebration, the Várkert Bazaar offers something unique this Advent in Budapest: not just a festive programme, but an experience that weaves together music, memory, heritage and community in the heart of Budapest.
