Budapest wins international urban development award, Mayor Karácsony says

Budapest has been selected among the Special Mentions of the Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize 2026, one of the world’s most prestigious urban development awards, Budapest Mayor Gergely Karácsony said on Facebook on Wednesday.

In addition to London as the Laureate, Antwerp, Budapest, Guangzhou, Taipei and Tianjin have been selected as Special Mentions for their outstanding best practices in urban initiatives and innovative approaches to city transformation.

One of Budapest’s greatest strengths is that it is able to think in terms of systems: the developments simultaneously reflect the physical and digital connection of transport networks, the recovery of the public spaces and the restoration of the natural environment,Karácsony said.
