NEBIH (National Food Chain Safety Office) Special Affairs Directorate checked a meat wholesale business in Pest county at the request of NAV (National Tax and Tariffs Office) Pest county Tax Directorate. During the procedure more than 22 tons of meat-product was seized by the professionals, and they also discovered a gyros producing facility operating without a license, origo.hu wrote.
During the inspection of the meat wholesale business they found unmarked and non-traceable products, and they also found that splitting and cutting activities were not documented in the facility. The unmarked poultry products came from Poland without an EKAER number (Electronic Control System for Road Trade in Goods), while the follow-up of the seized beef products was not adequate.
In the building behind the wholesale, the inspectors discovered a gyros producing facility operating without license. The people working there fled from the scene at the start of the inspection. The gyros was made in large quantities under poor sanitary conditions, in a cement mixer. According to the documents, they delivered the products to several gyros stores in Budapest, origo.hu wrote.
NEBIH placed all rooms under official lock and ordered the destruction of 22 tons of poultry, turkey, beef meat, yoghurt and spices. The process is underway, a fine of millions of forints is expected.
