Charter season beginning near Lake Balaton
The flights have begun to land at Hévíz-Balaton Airport in Sármellék, opening the charter plane season around the biggest lake of Hungary and Central Europe, as Turizmus.com reported. The first flight arrived from Frankfurt. We already reported about Lufthansa’s recently introduced flights to Budapest.
Mutsch Ungarn Reisen’s new flights’ point is that they transport tourists from 13 bigger German cities to the Western areas of Hungary with a change at Frankfurt.
The President of the Hungarian Hotel & Restaurant Association, László Könnyid stated that the charters will arrive at Sármellék until the summer season, while direct flights from Dusseldorf, Hamburg and Berlin will fly there every two weeks until the end of autumn. These flights are operated by the British airlines FlyBE on behalf of Mutsch.
He also mentioned that the bookings show an increased demand for flights between Germany and Sármellék: the records show weeks before the departure that planes with a greater capacity are needed in most cases.
Hévíz-Balaton Airport is, of course, the closest airport not only to Lake Balaton and its many resorts but also to a bulk of bathing paradises as Hévíz, Zalakaros, Bükfürdő, Kehidakustány and Sárvár.
According to the records, approximately 20,000 tourists arrived at the airport in Sármellék in 2017, most of them coming from Germany. Hévíz-Balaton Airport’s current schedule also aims to serve these people’s needs. Besides the charters mentioned above, Salamon Reisen also sends flights to Sármellék from Dresden, Erfurt and Leipzig weekly.
