Galloping into the Year of the Horse – Chinese New Year Program in Budapest

The China Cultural Center Budapest invites visitors to a festive, afternoon-long celebration on 6 February 2026 titled “Happy Chinese New Year 2026 – Galloping into the Year of the Horse.”
Celebrating Chinese New Year in Budapest
Running from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, the event showcases spectacular forms of China’s traditional intangible cultural heritage, offering a rare opportunity to experience them live in Budapest.
One of the highlights of the Chinese New Year program is Chengdu-style sugar painting, presented by Tang Xiaojie, a sixth-generation inheritor of this delicate folk art. Visitors can also witness the world-famous Sichuan opera face-changing performance, brought to the stage by Wang Zihao, where masks transform in the blink of an eye.
The afternoon continues with a demonstration of traditional dough figurine art by Liu Sha, as well as an elegant tea art performance using a long-spout teapot, presented by Li Xiaowan, an ambassador of China’s intangible cultural heritage. Together, these performances offer a vivid glimpse into the richness and diversity of Chinese festive traditions.
The event is open to the public and free to attend, making it an excellent cultural program for families, expats, and anyone interested in Asian traditions and celebrations.
