Congratulations! This Hungarian Christmas fair is Europe’s most beautiful
Budapest’s Advent Bazilika Christmas fair has been chosen as Europe’s most beautiful for the fourth time.
Advent Basilica is again the best European Christmas fair
According to Helló Magyar, our Hungarian partner site, the Hungarian Christmas fair in front of the iconic St Stephen’s Basilica was successful again. It has become Europe’s best Christmas market for the fourth time after 2020, 2022 and 2023, based on people’s votes.
The European Best Destination organised the voting. They wrote the following about the Advent Bazilika Christmas market:
“It is for the fourth time elected Best Christmas Market in Europe! The Advent Basilica is without doubt one of the most beautiful Christmas fairs in Europe.
Where love takes your hand – with this slogan, the Advent Basilica, Budapest’s uniquely beautiful Christmas fair, opens its doors again. From 17th November 2023 to 1st January 2024 in front of St. Stephen’s Basilica in one of the most impressive, beautiful squares of the Hungarian capital.”
Expensive drinks and foods but not everywhere in Hungary
They added that the Advent Basilica has been organised for 13 years, and it has a unique festive atmosphere offering wonderful experiences with more than 100 domestic craft exhibitors, lots of traditional Hungarian dishes, an ice skate rink, and musical and charity programs.
The second-best European Christmas market became Craiova’s (Romania), while the bronze medal went to Metz in France. Fourth is Poland’s Poznan, while fifth is France’s Montbeliard.
Budapest could precede the Christmas markets of Vienna, Brussels, Madrid, Prague and Salzburg.
However, food and drinks are expensive in the Hungarian Christmas market for a Hungarian family. Meanwhile, British tourists said Vörösmarty Square and Advent Basilica markets are cheap, compared to their British counterparts. We wrote about that contradiction in THIS article. If you want to go to a cheap but equally beautiful Hungarian Christmas market, you should travel a bit from Budapest. For example, to Szeged. HERE is our article.
