Coronavirus – Authorities ask for more discipline
Discipline in observing coronavirus precaution measures has loosened mostly in and around Budapest over the past days, the state secretary for international communication and relations said on Thursday morning, urging people to strictly follow government rules.
Regulations put in place by the government to contain the spread of the virus can only be effective if residents strictly observe them which is “key to success”, Zoltán Kovács told public Kossuth radio’s morning programme.
- Coronavirus – Number of confirmed cases at 980, 8 new deaths
- Coronavirus – Hungary not taking testing people seriously
He urged citizens “to cooperate” and observe regulations during the upcoming Easter holidays in order to prevent a dramatic increase in the number of cases.
“It must be understood by everyone that even if 80 percent of people show practically no symptoms of infection, coronavirus poses particular risk to the remaining 20 percent,” he said.
However, because the outbreak in Hungary began later than in other European Union countries, Hungary had time to implement the necessary restrictions to limit personal interactions. As a result, the number of confirmed cases per 100,000 people has remained low in international comparison, he added.
Kovács said that the prime minister will announce the next steps in Hungary’s response to the novel coronavirus epidemic in the afternoon.
