Cziffra Festival to start today
Budapest February 21 (MTI) – A classical music festival dedicated to the legendary Hungarian pianist Gyorgy Cziffra starting on Tuesday will run until Sunday with performances in two venues.
The festival will open in Budapest’s MOM Cultural Centre with the debut concert of the CZF Chamber Orchestra led by young virtuoso violinist ErnÅ‘ Kállai, with works by Grieg, Mozart and Liszt. Pianists JenÅ‘ Jandó and János Balázs will play Bach’s keyboard concerto in C minor.
The Budapest Academy of Music will host concerts by Turkish pianist Fazil Say, Hungarian mezzo soprano Andrea Rost and Russia cellist Mischa Maisky, as well as the closing gala.
Besides featuring acclaimed classical artists, the festival also features Gypsy musician Lajos Sarkozy, various jazz artists as well as matinee for young and debutant artists honouring the system of support that helped György Cziffra to achieve world fame.
