Danube boating season begins
Boating season is upon us, and the Hungarian Shipping Company (MAHART) offers many programmes on board of their ships, travelo.hu reports.
The season officially begins on April 17, also known as the day of the ‘Big Spring Swarming’. On this day every Budapest shipping company displays some of their ships in a 1.5-hour parade on the Danube.
Following this day, the companies offer their regularly scheduled shipping programmes for those interested.
The Budapest-Danube Bend tours are great for hikers since passengers can bring bicycles aboard. The Duna Corso pleasure boat takes a shorter trip along the banks of the river where the historical monuments of the city can be seen. MAHART’s programme for schools offers trips to students for a discounted price.
If you are looking for a longer journey on water, you can take trips to Szentendre, Visegrád, Esztergom and Vác, and every Sunday a nostalgia ship provides entertainment with live music of the ’60s and ’70s.
From April 25, a pleasure boat offers music and dinner in the evening, combining rock and roll, romance and an all-you-can-eat buffet with a trip by the lights of the city.
