According to kurultaj.hu, the 4th Day of Ancestors (Ősök Napja) festival will be held between the 11th and 13th of August by the Hungarian Turan Association. The celebration held in Bugac aims to commemorate the Hungarian ancestors and the great figures of Hungarian history with different traditionalist programmes.

The Day of Ancestors festival has become a bond between the Hungarians of the Carpathian Basin. The all-national collaboration has made it possible to create a new tradition with the biennial festival, which honours the founding fathers of the nation and the greatest figures of Hungarian history.

The organisers of the event believe that the collective national identity is an indispensable part of the life of each nation. Moreover, the conservation and presentation of the real traditions of the Hungarians are the most important earnests of the preserving of the Hungarian nation. One of the most important bonds connecting the nation is the knowledge of our history and the celebration of the greatest historic events.

The association felt like the Hungarian celebrations and public holidays lacked a very important element: the commemoration of the greatest ancestors of the Magyars (Árpád, Grand Prince of the Hungarians and Attila the Hun), and their history-changing role (the Hungarian conquest of the Carpathian Basin) and traditionalist acts (the Battle of Bratislava).

So they decided to commemorate them every year with the Kurultáj and Day of Ancestors festivals (in turns). The biggest traditionalist festivity of the Carpathian Basin welcomes guests with military gatherings, war demonstrations, equestrian competitions and quizzes, archery programmes, exhibitions presenting the Hungarian-Hun-Avar heritage, folk music and dance performances.

Furthermore, a huge yurt camp will be built, and craft workshops, thematic markets, kids’ programmes and educational lecture will also be held at the Day of Ancestors event.
