Do you know how well-equipped the Hungarian Parliamentary Guard is? – VIDEOS
Did you know that the Hungarian Parliament had a 400-man strong guard who is well-equipped to defend the Parliament against a coup or even a serious terrorist attack?
“Faithfully and honourably we serve.” With this motto, the Hungarian Parliamentary Guard was formed on January 1st in 2013. They say about themselves that the “Parliamentary Guard will not only maintain but also protect and defend the prestige and dignity of the Parliament. It will protect individuals and buildings, perform ceremonial and protocollary tasks, and ensure compliance with fire regulations and law-and-order rules, doing so at a high standard, with the maximum preparedness and professionalism.”
According to Magyar Narancs, who found a document about the guns and other equipment the Parliamentary Guard has purchased since September 2020, there are some interesting pieces of equipment.

Sniper rifle
One of the first items is a precision sniper rifle, to be more exact, it is an Accuracy International AT-308. This precision gun uses .308 calibre rifle cartridges and has a 24-inch, quick-change barrel. According to the manufacturer’s website, this rifle is perfect for both law enforcement and civilians.
Magyar Narancs says that it is more than capable of accurately eliminating targets at 800 metres, but the gun’s maximum range can reach 4,000 metres. This means that the Parliamentary Guard is more than capable of eliminating targets on Margaret Bridge from the top of the Parliament building.
Submachine guns
In addition to a sniper rifle, the Parliamentary Guard has also purchased one of the most beloved submachine guns of special forces around the globe. It is none other than Heckler & Koch’s MP5 family. The Guard has acquired two variants, an MP5KA4, which is a shortened version ideal for close-quarter combat, a regular version (MP5A3), and one with a built-in silencer (MP5SD6). These 9mm submachine guns are more than capable of eliminating potential threats when in the right hands. An assault rifle from H&K was also purchased, which use NATO-standard 5.56 ammunition.

Grenade Launcher
As Telex put it, by far the most brutal-looking armament the Parliamentary Guard has received is a 40mm six-shot grenade launcher. The AV-140 MSGL is manufactured by US company Milkor. The manufacturer says the following about their product: the AV-140 is a hand-held, gas plug operating, semi-automatic, revolving action, 40mm Multi-Shot Grenade Launcher (MSGL).
It can hurl its payload up to 400 metres or, depending on the ammunition, even 800 metres, but it has a pin-point accuracy at 125 to 250 metres. It uses 40×46 40mm grenades as projectiles and can be loaded with lethal and non-lethal options.
Accessories
The Parliamentary Guard also purchased several handguns, including but not limited to H&K USPs, Glocks, and even a Remington shotgun. In addition to guns that can have a lethal payload, the Guard also received enforcing equipment, such as the Taser X26, which delivers a mean punch, and also some batons, Telex reports.
