The Democratic Coalition opposition party has accused Prime Minister Viktor Orbán of striking a “dirty deal” with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Hungarian gas reserves were “running dry” as a result.
László Varju, DK’s shadow minister for energy and utility affairs, said in a statement on Thursday that the government had “failed to arrange the purchase gas other than Russian gas and has been buying gas from Russia for several times of the world market price” as a result of the “Orbán-Putin deal”.
“While other European Union member states are not allowing themselves to be blackmailed, and refuse to finance Putin’s war, Orbán has opted for dependence on Russian gas,” he said.
“As a result, Hungarians are paying seven times the price of gas, while gas reserves are running dry in the middle of winter,” he added. He said the shadow government was “Hungary’s only hope” when it came to ensuring affordable gas supplies for everyone.

I wasn’t going to comment on/about this article, but after reading another news article (elsewhere), I decided to comment after all.
Our “dear” “dear” PM always has the tendency to go it alone, ie, not follow the other EU countries (and stick together) to make it easier for us, the people. It’s become blatatly obvious that it’s always, we the people, who end up getting the short end of the stick because of his one-directional pig-headedness.
I will make it through this winter, but when I think about the gas prices the rest have to pay to keep warm I shudder to think what some elderly, pensioners, less well to do families have to go through because of just one person who decides that it is he who knows better than than the all the other 26 EU member countries combined.
Regarding the other article: Now that we finally managed to get some money out of the EU, we read that Felcsút is getting (YET ANOTHER!) new stadium! Just what our people need to be able to buy affordable staples for the kitchen and to stave off the cold from our homes. How we love the Mészáros and Orbán duo in action for their beloved Felcsút!
Hungarian Prime Minister Orban’s and Hungarian Government’s only duty is to look after the people of Hungary and possibly displaced Hungarians due to Treaty of Trianon. The previous commentator complained that the Government wants to build another stadium. This may be a much needed make work project in the area. This commentator should consider that the out of the millions of migrants in Germany, only about 40% at most, have regular jobs. The rest of migrants/refugees/illegal migrants are supported either by welfare or government make work projects. Economy is not the easiest to understand when not all the data is available. Even with the availability of all data, economists seldom agree.
