Hungarian football captain Dominik Szoboszlai has been honoured with a monumental mural in his hometown of Székesfehérvár, celebrating his journey from a local schoolboy to one of Europe’s elite footballers.

A giant mural honours Dominik Szoboszlai

The nearly 200-square-metre artwork covers the side of a four-storey residential building in the Szedreskert district, on Ligetsor, directly opposite Vörösmarty Primary School, where the Liverpool midfielder spent eight years as a pupil.

Although the official unveiling is scheduled for Sunday, the striking mural has already attracted widespread attention after images and videos appeared on social media, with fans flocking to see the artwork in person.

Who’s behind the enormous street art?

The tribute forms part of the Telekomosok Fesztiválja, a travelling festival that combines sport, music, culture and digital innovation. Székesfehérvár hosts the opening event of the series on 5 July at the King City Skatepark in Bregyó-köz, writes feol.hu.

Visitors can look forward to dance performances, rap battles and concerts by Bongor and Lil 404, but the highlight of the day is expected to be Szoboszlai’s appearance and the ceremonial inauguration of the mural dedicated to him.

The location was cleverly picked

The location carries a strong symbolic message. By placing the artwork opposite the school where Szoboszlai studied as a child, organisers hope to inspire younger generations and show local children that international success can begin in their own neighbourhood.

Created as a permanent landmark, the mural represents a more enduring tribute than previous promotional installations linked to the Hungarian star.

After a demanding season with Liverpool and Hungary’s disappointment at failing to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Szoboszlai is spending the summer at home before returning for pre-season preparations.
