Dozens of cars ran over a 92-year-old Romanian man in Hungary
A terrible accident has happened on the M0 motorway in Hungary. An unknown driver hit a 92-year-old Romanian pedestrian to death and then drove off. Traffic was not blocked in time, so many people drove over the man’s body, and forensic investigators found half a kilometre of human remains.
Fatal accident in Hungary
A 92-year-old Romanian man was walking irregularly on the Hungarian motorway M0. A car hit the man, who died of his injuries at the scene. The incident happened on Saturday evening at around 9:20 PM. According to the Hungarian police, the hit-and-run driver was a grey Mercedes Sprinter van with foreign registration plates.
The hit-and-run driver drove away from the scene of the accident without leaving any details or assistance. The police took action to identify, locate and apprehend the driver. The Érd Police Headquarters started an investigation into the accident on suspicion of the crime of failure to provide assistance.
Half a kilometre of human remains
An eyewitness told RTL Híradó that the man came from the nearby Annahegy rest area. Several tourist buses stopped here, and the elderly man must have got off one of them and then headed for the motorway. According to witnesses, the man realised he was in the wrong place and turned back, but it was too late.
Traffic was not stopped for an estimated 20 minutes after the accident. The man was run over not only by the Mercedes that hit him, but also by another 20-30 or possibly 40 cars, and none of them stopped to help. Police are also looking for these drivers to interview in connection with the incident. Forensic investigators have found human remains over half a kilometre of the motorway, according to RTL Híradó reports.
