The Moroccan caftan officially listed as UNESCO World Heritage

On Wednesday, 10 December, the Moroccan caftan was added to the list of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity at the 20th session of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The caftan is a key element in Morocco
The caftan is a key element in the wide spectrum of Morocco’s cultural mosaic. Its historical value, rooted in centuries of practice, is matched by its social significance. As a symbol of identity, social cohesion, and cultural and regional diversity, the caftan is a true “social reality” that unites the entire community in its design, manufacture, and everyday use.
Moroccan Caftan Added to UNESCO Heritage List
This major international recognition reflects the international community’s appreciation for the enlightened vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in favor of preserving cultural heritage, promoting authentic artistic expressions, and safeguarding traditional skills as essential levers for sustainable development and social cohesion, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad.
The inscription thus recognizes the centuries-old richness of the Moroccan caftan, a living witness to the history of the Kingdom, its plural identity, and its creative genius.
