European Commission: Border control national competency, but in line with intl law
Budapest, June 18 (MTI) – Border control is a national responsibility but it must be carried out in line with international regulations such as ones concerning human rights, a spokesperson for the European Commission said on Thursday.
Natasha Bertaud commented on Hungary’s Wednesday announcement that it would put up a fence along its border with Serbia.
The Commission does not consider fences as the best option and would recommend alternative measures, she added.
