Famous songs inspired by Budapest – VIDEOS
Budapest is without a doubt one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Its beauty captured many hearts so far, including those of many artists. Check out these songs, which were all, in some way or another, inspired by Budapest.
Hungarian songs about Budapest
As the nation’s capital, Budapest inspired a lot of Hungarian artists. Numerous songs have been written about Budapest. Here are a few of the most well-known ones.
Németh Juci – Nekem csak Budapest kell
This song is titled Nekem csak Budapest kell [All I want is Budapest] and it is about how amazing life is in the Hungarian capital.
Myon & Shane 54 feat. Tóth Gabi – Éjjel-Nappal Budapest
The song Éjjel-Nappal Budapest [Budapest all-day, all-night] was created for a Hungarian reality TV show, which follows the life of a group of young adults living in Budapest. The video is packed with beautiful shots of the capital.
International songs
Budapest is a very popular place for shooting both movies and video clips. Among others, Ellie Guilding’s latest hit Close To Me was shot entirely in the Hungarian capital, as well as the Fifa 2018 World Cup anthem video. Famous stars often come and go, doing different types of shootings or concerts, and some of them get so inspired that they later post songs, inspired by their stay in Budapest.
Jethro Tull – Budapest
Jethro Tull is a British rock band. They were formed in Blackpool, Lancashire, in 1967. The song Budapest is about a girl whom the band met in Budapest. She was a member of the crew, and she was apparently helping out around their concert. She definitely made quite an impression on these guys with her beautiful smile and long legs.
Ignite – Taken away
Ignite is a melodic hardcore band from Orange County, California. The band was formed in 1993. Although the song is not about Budapest, there is a segment which goes:
“Budapest, Hungary 1991,
I met a boy named János,
Confined to a wheelchair with multiple sclerosis,
Solely on the movement of his chin,
But he had so much to teach me,
When I showed him some friendship,
When I stopped to talk.”
Pain of Salvation – Beyond the Pale
Pain of Salvation is a Swedish progressive metal band led by Daniel Gildenlöw, who is the band’s main songwriter, lyricist, guitarist, and vocalist. In this song, he sings about a sensual night in Budapest.
“Someone still this hunger (It’s in my blood)
Always growing stronger (Ticking)
Budapest I’m learning
Budapest you’re burning me
This is not who I wanted to be
This is not what I wanted to see
She’s so young so why don’t I feel free
Now that she is here
Under me?”
George Ezra – Budapest
Budapest is a song by English singer-songwriter George Ezra. The song was released on 13 December 2013 in Italy and on 13 June 2014 in the United Kingdom. The song was a major hit for Ezra in Austria and New Zealand, topping the charts in both countries, while reaching the top ten in Australia, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands and Switzerland. It was the 13th-best-selling single of 2014 in the UK. Interestingly, despite its title, the song does not really have anything to do with the Hungarian capital, and Ezra had never even been here before. He was actually in Malmö, Sweden when he wrote the song.
