Bertalan Havasi, opposition Fidesz’s communications director, has filed a complaint with the Budapest Investigative Prosecutor’s Office for abuse of office after failing to receive his pay during the severance period following his dismissal in May.
According to a letter seen by MTI, lawyer Róbert Répássy, a former state secretary at the justice ministry, filed the complaint on Havasi’s behalf against the former deputy state secretary for abuse of office.
Havasi, a former deputy state secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office, was dismissed by Prime Minister Péter Magyar on 16 May with immediate effect. His government service contract was set to expire on Nov 16, including a six-month severance period starting 17 May, during which he was exempt from work obligations and entitled to monthly severance payments.

Zsuzsanna Ducsay, the state secretary of administration at the Prime Minister’s Office, had previously informed Havasi in a letter that she would arrange for the calculation and payment of his severance and other benefits, as well as the issuance of required certifications. However, Havasi’s July severance payment was not made, according to the complaint.
The document also notes that Magyar had publicly said on at least two occasions that Havasi’s severance pay would not be paid.
