The European Commission, under pressure from the Hungarian “dollar left” and the European left, is withholding EU development funds from Hungary for political reasons, Tamás Deutsch, an MEP of ruling Fidesz, told public radio on Sunday.
“I trust that the Commission will not maintain this unlawful state,” he told Kossuth Radio. Deutsch said “we, Hungarians, have had to face for years the fact that various European Union institutions are conducting show trials against our country, trying to put massive political pressure on Hungary based on lies, slander, smears, increasingly rude political labels without any basis.” He said the reason for this was that Hungary rejected illegal migration, while Brussels pursues a pro-migration policy and “tries to force this down the throats of member states”.
Deutsch said Hungarians say no to gender ideology madness, they want to protect their children and will not allow gender propagandists into kindergartens and schools. Hungary’s child protection law does not allow the right of parents to control their children’s education to be taken away from them, he said. He added that Hungary consistently took a stand on the side of peace in connection with the war in Ukraine, whereas Brussels took a pro-war, hawkish position and pursued a flawed sanctions policy, which encourages the Brussels bureaucrats to exercise political pressure. “Let’s admit, so far this political pressure has been successful, because Poland and Hungary have been unable to access the development funds they are entitled to,” the MEP said.
EU Parliament budgetary control committee will come to Hungary
Deutsch noted that Hungary reached an agreement with the European Commission on professional issues in November last year and again this year. At the end of May, the General Affairs Council of the European Council will hold another hearing, the 11th, as part of the Article 7 procedure, Deutsch said, but “they will say nothing new, nothing specific, the accusations will continue, the pre-drafter verdict will be delivered”. He noted that members of the European Parliament’s budgetary control committee will soon be visiting Hungary, but it is already clear that they will arrive with a preconception: “they will see corruption phantoms in Hungary by all means, they will inevitably perceive that the rule of law is in ruins,” he said. “They are not interested in what is happening here, no matter what facts we present to them that contradict their original stance, they will still repeat their original defamatory position,” Deutsch said.
The Rouble Right Fidesz government is beyond redemption as is apparent for all to see from the comments of Tamas Deutsch. If the government does not change the ultimate destination is an exit from the EU and possibly NATO as well. It’s ordinary Hungarians who suffer due to this thoroughly corrupt government that is under considerable Russian control.
Yes, uncalled for lies by brussel.
One of the only reasons they held back funds was because they demanded we set up an anti corruption sector in our government.
And our politicians didn’t quite want that to happen, why would they help create something that might stop them from taking money out of the system.
It’s like ratting on yourself.
If they weren’t guilty, they wouldn’t have had a problem setting a section in the government that screens for corruption in itself.
But knowing the country, that sector would have been corrupted from the start, so it might have been pointless to begin with.
Anyway. Just so you know, we got billions of euros held back because of this. An easy fix really, and they wouldn’t do it.
The only reason is that all the money ends up at the pockets of the Viktator and his friends. This is how a poor gas-fitter becomes the richest man in Hungary.
Well there we go Mr. Deutsch, smears everything before it starts and has a semi final word on the conclusion of the meetings so does he know that the government still has some way to go to full fill it’s obligations to the EU. although according to him they have full filled them but it is clear they have not.
In October of 2022 and under pressure from the EU, Parliament passed the law on establishing the autonomous Integrity Authority to investigate fraud, conflict of interest, corruption and other crimes in connection with the use of European Union funds in Hungary. It also has the power to independently launch probes.
The anti-corruption working group of the newly established Integrity Authority apparently adopted its first report on 2022 which it submitted to the government in March of this year.
So – again: question to anyone, including our Politicians – have you heard anything regarding this 2022 report? Seen a copy? Press release? @DNH – you are journalists – any intel?
Mr. Deutsch is no doubt anxious to wave the report in the faces of the Dollar Left!
The EU is not withholding the money, it has spent it in Ukraine.
@mariavontheresa – maybe you can help to find this anti-corruption working group report??? Or is it a fata morgana?
