Fidesz MEP: Hungary part of EU’s Civil Protection Mechanism
Contrary to claims by the opposition Socialist Party, Hungary is part of the European Union’s Civil Protection Mechanism along with all other member states, Fidesz MEP Tamás Deutsch said on Sunday.
In a video message, Deutsch cited Socialist MEP Istvan Újhelyi as having said that Hungary was the only member state not participating in the bloc’s Civil Protection Mechanism.
“Contrary to Istvan Újhelyi’s deceitful claims, the truth is that Hungary — along with every other EU member state — is part of the bloc’s civil protection programme,” Deutsch said.
As part of the programme, Hungary will send a large amount of medical equipment to Ukraine, including Transcarpathia and beyond, he said.
Deutsch noted that Hungary has already sent 600 million forints’ (EUR 1.5m) worth of aid to Ukraine outside the Civil Protection Mechanism.
“We didn’t wait for the European Union’s bureaucracy, but instead provided tangible help to Ukraine as quickly as possible,” he said.
