The national executive committee and parliamentary group of opposition Fidesz have issued a “declaration of resistance”, in which they called “the new political regime” illegitimate, saying it was established “in gross violation of the Fundamental Law and because its goal is the exclusive exercise of power”.
Fidesz issued a “declaration of resistance”
In a statement on Tuesday, Fidesz said it “rejects the new authoritarian regime”, will not participate in the election of replacements for the ousted officials, and will review its decisions only once “the democratic rule of law has been restored”.
Fidesz said that following the 2026 elections, the Tisza Party had altered Hungary’s constitutional system. “After the 17th amendment to the Fundamental Law, Hungary is no longer a democratic state governed by the rule of law, and an era of autocracy has once again dawned in Hungary,” it said.
They complain that the rule of law has officially ended
“By restricting the right to vote, political competition has ceased, and with it, democracy has come to an end. The President of the Republic and the President of the Constitutional Court have been removed, thereby abolishing the separation of powers; checks and balances have been eliminated, and the rule of law has been dismantled,” they added.
The statement said that every citizen had the right to take a stand against “autocracy”, and as a result, Fidesz would “oppose not only the government but also the new political regime”. They emphasised that, starting today, their mission was “to restore the democratic rule of law”.

“We will help the victims”
“We will help the victims of the authoritarian regime. We are documenting the violations of the law committed by the Tisza government,” the statement said. “Once the democratic rule of law is restored, we will provide the victims and those who have suffered harm with the redress they are entitled to.”
Vitya. You ruled on supermajority for years, and state of emergency for the past six years?
Have you got amnesia as well as dementia?
Great point about the six year state of emergency declared by Fidesz where they could rule by decree. Still there is probably 20% of the population that have been brainwashed by years of Fidesz TV that will believe anything these gangsters say. The other 80% of the population will go about the task of rebuilding the country.
Fidesz and Democracy can not meet
what Orbán is hallucinating about 😂😂😂
Fidesz back to their delusional, fear mongering ranting again..
Wow, that is rich…Órban rigged the Constitution so he could serve 1000 years, his mammoth ego got in his way, he lost touch with the people he was meant to lead, and now he rants about “saving democracy”? A very bad joke. IF he had stepped aside and handed Fidesz leadership to a younger generation, perhaps they would not have lost so badly. But that fact that he is still holding on it proof that it is all about him. He should retire to his country estate and enjoy his family.
Haah, hah, hah, hah……..HAAAHH……ah…..oh, my abs ache. Is there any other reaction to Viktor’s rant?
Came here for the comments. Knew I wouldn’t be disappointed!
Grandad has lost all touch with reality or alternatively has skin thicker than rhinoceros hide. On reflection, probably both.
I commented on inertia and learning from or at least considering and (re-)contextualizing the past elsewhere on this site today. Mr. Orbán might do well to consider the trajectory of his career and at least the politics of the Hungarian Nation from maybe the mid-80’s to present through several different lenses. I’m not sure the illiberal set he had on sometimes in the past fifteen years or so would see what he’s saying here the same way he ostensibly does.
Anyone else thinks that Grandad looks like he took his happy pills in this photo?
