Financial fraud: Police raid home of Kun-Mediator managing director

Police raided the home of the managing director of travel agency Kun-Mediator in Karcag (Eastern Hungary) on Sunday night and seized 800 contracts during the raid, news portal Origo reported. A spokesperson for the local police force told MTI on Monday that the police would neither confirm nor deny the report.

Origo reported that the managing director, Mrs. Sándor Dobrai, continues to evade authorities, but her two daughters, both of whom used to be members of the leadership of the travel agency, were present during the raid and cooperated with the authorities.

The police announced last Tuesday (14 April 2015) that an investigation on suspicion of embezzlement had been launched against a “company undertaking financial activities” after several reports were made to the Karcag police.

István Dobrossy, lawyer of the Kun-Mediator clients, in connection with the embezzlement, earlier said that the losses caused by the travel agency can be between 5 and 20 billion forints, depending on how many clients may decide to lodge a complaint and how many of them would exercise the creditors’ claim. Kun-Mediator also came under the scrutiny of the National Bank of Hungary (MNB) last week, after it was revealed that it had been offering investment services, managing billions of forints of clients’ funds without licence.

Mrs. Sándor Dobrai, the managing director of Kun-Mediator, is still subject to a police arrest warrant.
