Fire breaks out in Budapest apartment, street temporarily closed

A fire broke out early Sunday afternoon in a residential building on Baross Street in Budapest’s 8th district, prompting a swift response from firefighters and temporary road closures in the area. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
Flames engulfed one room
According to the Hungarian Disaster Management Authority, furniture and household items caught fire across approximately 15 square metres in a second-floor apartment of a five-storey residential building between Szűz Street and Vasas köz. Before firefighters arrived, the owner of the flat had already begun extinguishing the flames, which were eventually put out by professional crews using a single water jet.
Local outlet Józsefváros Újság reported that the affected flat belonged to an elderly woman. One of her rooms was completely engulfed in flames, but she managed to get to safety and was examined by paramedics on-site. Authorities confirmed that she suffered no injuries.
Residents asked to stay indoors
Although the fire generated dense smoke, the building did not need to be evacuated. Officials, however, requested that residents remain inside and keep their windows and doors closed while the building was ventilated. Firefighters used large fans to clear the smoke from the stairwell and apartments.
Temporary street closure
For the duration of the emergency response, the affected section of Baross Street between Szűz Street and Vasas köz was closed to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Police helped secure the area to ensure the safety of residents and passers-by.
By later in the afternoon, the fire was fully extinguished and the building ventilated. The affected section of Baross Street remained closed during the firefighting operation. Authorities have not yet released information about the possible cause of the fire.
