First highway link between Hungary and Romania to be inaugurated
The Romanian Highway Company (CNADNR) has announced that a new highway link between Romania and Hungary will be completed on 11 July, budaörsiinfo.hu reported.
It will link the two countries by interconnecting Romania’s A1 and Hungary’s M43 highways, between Nadlac (Romania) and Csanádpalota (Hungary).
The new checkpoint will ease both the international passenger and freight traffic, according to the Romanian Government. The freight traffic will have a weight limit of 7.5 tons between Nadlac (Romania) and Nagylak (Hungary).
On the same day, a 16 kilometres long highway segment between Pécska and Arad, and a 23 kilometres long M43 highway segment between the border and Makó will also be inaugurated.
According to the Romanian Mediafax news agency, Hungary’s PM Viktor Orbán and Romania’s PM Victor Ponta are also invited to the inauguration.
The Pécska – Arad highway segment should have been completed in 2013, but CNADNR terminated the contract with the original contractor for misuse of funds, and launched a new tender procedure for completing the construction. The work is likely to be finished this year, which will make it possible to reach Temesvár on highway.
