Food price inflation surprisingly high, Orbán cabinet extends price monitoring system
The government is weighing the addition of more products to an online platform that monitors the prices of a broad range of food at Hungary’s biggest supermarket chains, the National Economy Ministry said on Wednesday.
With the addition of fish, coffee, tea, rice, cream, beef, sausage, sweets and cocoa, the number of products on the platform could rise to 100. Launched on July 1, 2023 as part of government measures to spur competition and bring down food price inflation, the platform features daily price comparisons at Aldi, Auchan, Lidl, Penny, Spar and Tesco.
According to 24.hu, based on the latest data, the average food price inflation in Hungary is above 5.4%.
Economic stimulus off to ‘flying start’, says Orbán
The government’s economic stimulus measures are “off to a flying start”, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said in a video message on social media on Wednesday. “We’re not just making promises, but working and making progress,” Orbán said.
He noted the launch of the Demján Sándor Programme, a scheme to scale up local SMEs, as well as of subsidised credit for young, blue collar workers. He also pointed to some HUF 1,700bn in yields on retail government securities to be paid to over 800,000 households in the course of 2025, adding that they would get HUF 954bn of that amount in the first quarter.
Rather than “fattening up” foreign investors, those yields are going to Hungarian households which is “good for families, good for the Hungarian economy and good for Hungary”, he said. “So starts a fantastic year,” he added.

REMEMBER – remember, remember – Hungarians, post the end of the Covid Pandemic in Hungary, the PRICE Rises, in the cost of our DAILY lives, from the BASIC need’s – to live our lives, just focusing on FOOD, the Orban / Varga – Orban led Fidesz Governments policies to PRICE Cap – REMEMBER ???
It was firstly by those of far greater intellectual Economic & Financial “learned” brains – with CV’s – that PROVED they knew there SUBJECTS – they INFORMED the Orban led Fidesz Government, they advised as he was at time time, the ABSOLUTE “dud” – Finance Minister of Hungary – Mihaly Varga, that price capping – in the then FRAGILE economy of Hungary, would be a CATACLYSMIC in-effectual DISASTER.
Orban & Varga – didn’t LISTEN – didn’t tale intellectual “learned” expertise ADVICE – went on with there CRAZED price capping policies – that Hit & Hurt disgracefully, the POCKETS of millions upon millions of Hungarians.
REMEMBER – post the period in time end of the Covid Pandemic in Hungary – the word INFLATION – through the CRAZED policies of Finance & Economic Management in Hungary – under the former “dud” Minister of Finance introduced and practiced – again being ADVISED by greater brains of intellectual economic & finance CAPACITY , than Varga and Orban – no LISTENING was EXERCISED – by Varga & Orban – that on the word INFLATION – there policies, failed BIG time, through policies of there INTRODUCTION – that continued to be a massive FEED’s – its un-controllable existence – INFLATION – into the collapsing Hungarian Economic & Financial “landscape” of Hungary.
Orban / Varga – “stuffed up” back in time, and in between that “back in time” – adjustments, changes introduced from the Orban – led Fidesz Government and from the former – the desk of the “dud” – Minister of Finance – Mihaly Varga – just CONTINUED on destroying, driving the ECONOMY, the entire Economic & Financial “landscape” of Hungary – into an Abyss that has DELIVERED us as a country , in a “free fall” nadir place, that DARKENS on.
Currency the weakening of the forint, – European & Global LOSS – countrys of DEMOCRACY – of CONFIDENCE in the forint, sickness of the Economy, not forgetting Hungary we are a country of IMPORTERS – and purchase use of Euros, and as the forint DECLINES – cost to Hungary on IMPORTS rises – that ENCASED – in the entire DEVASTATED economic & financial “landscape” of Hungary – just again on the word INFLATION – it will not be firstly controlled by the Orban led Fidesz Government and secondly will GROW in its IMPACT on the daily lives of ALREADY millions upon millions of Hungarians – who are in SURVIVAL “mode” – and will – INFLATION alone WILL – increase the daily COST of our lives, through the daily NEEDS we need to live – that results in FACT, fact and fact that NOTHING is Going to Get CHEAPER in Hungary.
