Hungarian police have arrested a Polish national on suspicion of attempting to smuggle ten Syrians out of the country, the Veszprem County Police Headquarters said on Sunday.
The 28-year-old suspect was driving a vehicle with a Polish licence plate towards Austria when police officers pulled him over near Varpalota, in western Hungary, shortly after 9pm on Saturday, the police said in a statement.

were unable to provide any documents verifying their legal status to the authorities, and were escorted back to Hungary’s border fence. Police questioned the driver and initiated his pre-trial detention on suspicion of people smuggling.
Veszprém police made the arrest with the help of the National Investigation Bureau (NNI) and the Fejer County Police Headquarters, the statement said.
