Several Hungarian baths to be renewed!

In the last 2 years, Budapest baths have lost a huge amount of revenue. The loss is estimated to be HUF 20 billion, but pre-pandemic turnover returned by the end of the year. There are reasons to celebrate not only in the baths of the capital but also in the countryside. This year, renovation work will begin at several rural baths. Thanks to these projects, soon we can enjoy our favourite renewed baths again.

The traffic returned to the Budapest baths

Turnover in 2020 was 10 per cent higher than in 2021. However, this was still only a third of the 2019 record year. Ildikó Szűts, CEO of Budapest Gyógyfürdői és Hévízei Zrt., made a report with porfolio.hu. The increase in the price of natural gas and electricity in 2021 meant an additional cost of HUF 340 million. This, along with the huge revenue loss due to the pandemic, poses a significant issue for every spa in the capital.

Almost a whole year of revenue was lost due to the pandemic.

There are several reasons behind this. On the one hand, baths had to be closed down for more than 8 months, and on the other hand, domestic and foreign turnover decreased drastically. In 2021, revenue was HUF 6.5 billion, 10 per cent higher than in the previous year. In 2020, half of the revenue came in from the pre-pandemic period.
