Hungary praises Trump for ‘fixing’ US ties after Biden ‘damage’

Since President Donald Trump’s inauguration, Hungarian-US relations have seen three important “breakthrough achievements”, which show the high quality of their political ties, the parliamentary state secretary of the foreign ministry said in Washington, DC, on Friday, local time.

After meeting his US counterpart, Christopher Landau, Levente Magyar said in a ministry statement that the Trump administration had “ended the sanctions imposed in the last days of the Democratic administration, which have been proven unfounded.”

Second, the US government exempted the upgrade of the Paks nuclear plant from sanctions that indirectly affected the strategic project, Magyar said. “Third, a few days ago we signed an agreement under which we will use US technology to develop a segment of the Hungarian nuclear industry based on small modular reactors,” he added.

Magyar said those steps showed the high quality of Hungarian-US political ties and were an affirmation that “important matters can be settled with similar openness and effectiveness in the future”. Magyar said that his talks in the past three days had reflected “the 180-degree turn in Hungarian-US ties.”
