Széchenyi István University (SZE) is now included in three subject categories in the 2026 Times Higher Education (THE) Subject Rankings. SZE breaks ground in global rankings

One of the world’s most prestigious international higher education ranking organisations, Times Higher Education, publishes its subject rankings annually. In the rankings for 2026, released on January 21, universities were assessed in 11 subject areas, drawing on the indicators used in the overall world rankings. Institutions were evaluated on the basis of five criteria: teaching, research environment, research quality (scientific publications), international outlook, and industry income. This methodology enables a comparative assessment of universities’ performance within individual academic fields.

A first-timer in the Computer Science category

One of the notable developments in the latest rankings is that Széchenyi István University (Győr) has been included for the first time in the Computer Science category, in the 1001+ ranking category. As a result, its presence in the subject rankings has expanded from two to three areas. The University continues to hold its previous positions in Business and Economics (601–800 category) and in Engineering (1251+ category).
