Get ready: Half Budapest to be closed this weekend
The marathon races of the World Athletics Championships will be held on Saturday and Sunday morning, 26 and 27 August, in Budapet. The route of the competition will be closed and the affected public transport services will run on a modified route, the Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) said on Thursday.
From 4 AM on Saturday until 11 AM and from 4 AM on Sunday until 12.30 PM on Sunday, traffic will be prohibited in the area of Heroes’ Square, on Dózsa György Street, on Andrássy Avenue-József Attila Street-Chain Bridge-Castle Tunnel-Attila Street. During the race, pedestrians will be allowed to cross only at the designated points. For easier access, they recommend using the metro, Pénzcentrum writes.
Traffic restrictions are expected on Andrássy Avenue throughout the weekend. The entire Andrássy Avenue will be closed in the morning of the competitions, while in the afternoon and evening, the section between Oktogon and Heroes’ Square will be closed, BKK added.
They also pointed out that the section of Podmaniczky Street between Izabella Street and Szinnyei Merse Street will be closed from Friday to Sunday evening, 25 August, due to the Terézváros Festival.
Details of the affected lines and traffic changes can be found on the BKK website and in the BudapestGO app.
