Getting young Hungarians back from Western Europe stated as key objective of the government
Attracting back young Hungarians who have moved to western Europe is a major objective of the Hungarian government, an official at the Prime Minister’s Office said on Friday.
State secretary for Hungarian communities abroad Árpád János Potápi attended the annual general meeting of the association of Hungarian national organisations in western Europe (NYEOMSZSZ) held this year in Fatima, Portugal.
At the meeting the 15 member organisations of NYEOMSZSZ submitted their annual reports on their activities, achievements and tasks.
Potápi told MTI by phone that promoting Hungarian identity in western Europe was a primary objective of his secretariat.
NYEOMSZSZ was established in 2001.
For that matter, according to a recent survey arranged by Republikon Institute, higher wages are the most important reason why more and more young Hungarians are working abroad. Salaries are very different in the European Union. For example, the minimum wage in Luxemburg is eight times more than in Bulgaria.
Thus, Eastern-European countries lose their most educated, skilled and well-trained workforce.
Therefore, the labour shortage is spreading in that half of Europe together with its demographic decline.
