Good news: Budapest has a budget for H2 2025 – UPDATE: appointment of Budapest company heads halted

The Budapest assembly has decided to adjust this year’s budget of the capital and raise the capital’s current account credit limit by 20 billion forints at the proposal of Gergely Karácsony, the city’s mayor.

At an extraordinary session on Monday evening, the body voted to approve the budget with 19 votes in favour, 10 against and 3 abstentions. The Fidesz-Christian Democrat group voted against.

The capital’s administration will make use 80 billion forints in the current account between Aug 1 and Sept 19, according to the amendment. Regarding the raised credit limit, the city administration has undertaken to cover servicing the current account loan this year during the period of use and repayment.

UPDATE: Fidesz, opposition parties stopped appointment of Budapest company heads, says Tisza

The Fidesz, the Democratic Coalition, Párbeszéd, the Socialists and the Two-Tailed Dog party cooperated to stop the appointment of the heads of Budapest-owned companies, the Tisza party said on Tuesday, adding that those parties had rejected Tisza’s proposal on the matter at the extraordinary session of the Budapest Assembly.

“It has once again become clear that Tisza is the only party that wants true change, and it is the only one with an interest in eliminating back-alley deals through the companies,” the statement said.

“Behind the scenes, [Mayor] Gergely Karácsony worked hand in hand with Fidesz to hobble the work of Tisza councillor Árpád Orbán, the head of the deliberation committee on the subject,” Tisza insisted.
