Government funds mentoring programmes to keep Roma girls in school
Budapest, June 12 (MTI) – The government is making 151 million forints (EUR 500,000) in funding available for programmes to keep Roma girls from leaving school early, the state secretary for social inclusion said on public television M1 on Saturday.
Roma girls between the ages of 10 and 18 are at risk for dropping out of school, which can have a negative impact over an entire lifetime, Károly Czibere said. Civil organisations and local governments that can boost the target group’s motivation and school performance through mentoring, with the involvement of parents, may apply for the funding, he added.
