Government: Hungary plans uniform packaging for tobacco products
Budapest, June 25 (MTI) – The government was planning to introduce uniform packaging for tobacco products, the government office chief said on Thursday.
At a regular government press briefing, Janos Lazar said the measure is aimed at ensuring that “every tobacco product has the same appearance, leaving no room for promotion”. He said the same measure had worked in Australia, and France and Ireland were mulling taking the same step.
A relevant proposal will go before parliament in the autumn, Lazar said.
The government’s plans to build a new hospital in Budapest could be financed from the special tax collected from tobacco companies, the cabinet chief said.
