What does the Hungarian government do to protect public transport passengers?

In view of recent public bus fires in Budapest, the Budapest government office has launched an immediate, comprehensive review, the body said on Friday.
“It is concerning and unacceptable that buses should be running in Budapest that put the safety and life of passengers at risk. The government office will focus especially on the state of the buses, the facilities and the control equipment, as well as the experts conducting checks on buses,” the statement said.
Budapest takes immediate action
An immediate investigation is required on fires that occurred on three buses of Budapest transport company BKV on successive days, Budapest’s mayor said on Thursday. Gergely Karácsony said on Facebook that after Wednesday, two other buses caught fire on Thursday, but fortunately, nobody was injured on either day. “Our colleagues took action in a fast and professional manner,” he added.
Karácsony said that it had been unprecedented since 2022 that two buses caught fire on successive days, let alone three, and “this calls for an immediate investigation”.
