Government to allocate HUF EUR 4.8bn to regional development programmes
Budapest, October 26 (MTI) – The government is set to allocate more than 1,500 billion forints (EUR 4.8bn) worth of EU funds to regional and urban developments under the Regional and Urban Development Programme and the Competitive Central Hungary Operative Programme, Economy Minister Mihaly Varga said.
Both operative programmes will be used to develop the local economy and boost employment, and they will focus on strengthening counties as opposed to regions, he said on Monday, after signing an cooperation agreement with the Association of County Seats, in Budapest.
He said that under the programme, the government will spend 1,230 billion forints on upgrading 1,465 doctors’ offices, training and providing supplementary payments for 68,000 disadvantaged workers and renovating 480 km of roads.
Varga said the government would call tenders for 800 billion forints worth of EU funds this year.
