Government to make extraordinary announcements soon!
Gergely Gulyás, the prime minister’s chief of staff, and Alexandra Szentkirályi, the government’s spokeswoman, will hold government info at 1 PM. The regular time of the government briefings is Thursday afternoon. Thus, the government probably decided on something important in the last few days.
Ruling parties Fidesz and KDNP held their parliamentary group meeting in Balatonfüred this week, between 22 and 23 February. Following that, PM Viktor Orbán announced a number of important decisions. Hungarian press believes the extraordinary government info might be in connection with those.
Portfolio.hu believes that Gulyás and Szentkirályi might talk about the following topics:
- The NATO accession of Finland and Sweden. We wrote yesterday that the government parties would warn Stockholm and Helsinki against spreading false information about Budapest provided they want Hungary’s green light.
- EU funds: it seems acquiring the money will be harder than previously thought.
- Economic questions, regarding a possible trend turn concerning inflation and the end of the food price cap scheme. Interestingly, opposition parties and trade unions want to abolish that.
- Questions regarding Hungary’s energy policies
HERE is what the government finally announced on their Saturday extraordinary briefing.
