Budapest (MTI) – The government has started negotiations with municipalities and other local agencies to prepare higher education options in 6-8 cities in Hungary’s provinces, Bence Retvari, state secretary at the human resources ministry, said on Thursday.
In his answer to a question by the green LMP party, Retvari referred to a recent amendment aimed at adjusting higher education to market conditions and the requirements of local communities through establishing “community education centres”.
The centres could host courses by Hungary’s universities and colleges in line with the needs of the local economy, Retvari said. He added that in rural areas higher education could contribute to retaining the local workforce, strengthen the community and boost the economy.
Retvari mentioned Salgotarjan (N), Bekescsaba (SE), Kisvarda (NE), Ozd (N) and Satoraljaujhely (NE) among possible locations for the new education centres.
