Heat wave: Red code issued in Hungary
The state secretary for social care policy issued a weather-related “red code” on Monday, mandating social institutions to accept homeless or vulnerable people during the heat wave.
Attila Fülöp told a press conference on Monday that the order is in force from 8 AM on Monday until 9 PM on Wednesday.
Earlier, the chief medical officer issued a second-degree heat alert in effect between midnight Sunday and midnight Wednesday. Median temperatures are expected to be above 25 degrees Celsius nationwide, and top temperatures will be between 30-36 degrees on Monday, 28-35 degrees on Tuesday and 29-38 degrees on Wednesday, the National Meteorological Service said.
