Hungarian AgMin: Import ban on Ukrainian grain should be extended beyond Sept 15
A ban on imports of Ukrainian agricultural products to neighbouring countries should be extended beyond Sept. 15, Agriculture Minister István Nagy said after talks with his Polish counterpart in Warsaw on Thursday.
At a joint press conference with Robert Telus, Nagy praised the joint steps taken by five central and eastern European EU countries to address the glut of Ukrainian grain produce. Thanks to those steps, “our borders and farmers” are now protected by EU measures, Hungarian Agriculture Minister said.
He noted, however, that the restrictions on the import of Ukrainian grain produce introduced by the European Union will expire on Sept. 15.
Nagy said he and Telus were in agreement that this deadline must be extended, arguing that the corn harvest was still under way. The minister said he had also asked his Polish counterpart for a mandate to negotiate the opening of more Black Sea routes for grain exports with Turkiye.
