Hungarian FM calls on Biden to address suspected Ukraine corruption

Joe Biden should address corruption allegations in connection with Ukraine before resuming dealings with Hungary, Péter Szijjártó, the foreign minister, said on Facebook on Saturday.

Szijjártó noted that the Democratic US election candidate had worked on central European issues for eight years during Barack Obama’s presidency. He added that the US had “attacked constantly and lectured” central Europe.

Also, the US had attacked Hungary when it adopted its new constitution and US embassy leaders had taken part in anti-government protests in Budapest, he said.

The minister also referred to “extremely politically biased opinions” expressed in support of the opposition.

Biden, he said, had been preoccupied with Ukraine. “It wouldn’t be too much of an exaggeration to say that there was a time during in his vice-presidency when he visited Ukraine more that he visited America beyond Washington.”

The minister said these visits coincided with his son’s term on the board of directors of a Ukrainian energy company. This period, he added, was marked by endemic corruption in the Ukrainian energy sector.

Biden, he said, should make clear how he had used his political influence to bring about profits for the energy company and his son. He should declare, he added, what pressure he put on the Ukrainian government to dismiss the Ukrainian Attorney General, and how this dismissal was connected to the cessation of investigations into energy deals made by Biden’s son.

Szijjártó slammed Biden for recently making “totally unjust and unworthy” accusations against Hungary and Poland at a campaign event.

  1. Half the time, Biden is once more running for the Senate, nor does he know where he is. Biden’s minders are afraid to let him off the leash. Biden has no business slurring a government that was democratically elected. Biden is an intolerant bigot!!!!

  2. Mr. Szijjártó should be reminded that Hunary’s corruption index (CPI) is 70 verses the US index of 23. Which means Hungary is in the more corrupt staus vs the US in the less corrupt status, and should clean up there own act before schooling the US about corruption!
New Zealand and Denmark are number 1 and Samalia is number 179

  3. The obama/biden presidency was the most corrupt in the history of the united states. As an american I’m sorry that the Hungarian people had to deal with that. With Trump, you have a great ally that respects Hungary.

  4. Just who does this Szijjártó pipsqueak think he is? Plus to release a comment as stated above in the final countdown to the US election is a total breach of international diplomatic protocol. It is a deliberate attempt to smear Biden during the election process. If the Hungarian pipsqueak had concerns about this issue, why didn’t he voice them before? Why now? Perhaps the Republicans have him on their payroll….

  5. On the other Hand, the US has yet to apologize for not carrying through the promise to help Hungary on their in their fight for Freedom from Russia that they kept announcing on Radio Free Europe after the War — Which resulted in the crushing of the Hungarians in the 1956 Revolution. It resulted in the most devastating tragedy in the History on Hungary. The 45 years, three generations under the Russian Communism took away their Identity , their respect and property, that will take generations to heal because they are born into and don’t know any different. China is as much to blame for postponing the timely action of the UN Security Council against Russia in the Revolution. Corruption is result of this and Hungary will never be able to join New Zealand and Denmark because the chain of corruption is born into the culture and passed on to the next generation.
This chain of corruption and all can only be broken with the help of “Bystander Hungarians” from other countries that escaped the 45 year tragedy and are watching their country floundering helplessly trying to find their identity.

  6. I agree with Thetruthhurts. It’s a typical mindset ingrained from the Communist Era that unfortunately Hungary will be chained to for a long time as it is passed on from generation to generation because they were born into it. It is the root of corruption. Putin and China are in bed with each other on this one. And of coarse it only applies one way. I love your use of the word pipsqueak, haven’t heard it for a long time.
