Hungarian foreign minister meets Russian counterpart
Nicosia, May 19 (MTI) – Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó met Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on Friday on the sidelines of a meeting of foreign ministers from the Council of Europe in Nicosia.
Szijjártó told MTI by phone that he had discussed energy security topics with Lavrov.
He said he had informed Lavrov that Hungary wants to discuss a possible gas supply contract with Russia for the period after 2021. Lavrov said the Russian government is open towards the idea and the companies involved should have no difficulties in starting talks at an economic forum in Saint Petersburg.
“We are not under the pressure of time so we have a good chance of securing far more favourable contract terms through the talks than in the past”, the Hungarian minister said.
