New draft decree would limit the employment period of guest workers

A draft decree by the National Economy Ministry would limit the employment period of guest workers at big investment sites to the project’s completion or at most one year.

The draft decree, published for public consultation on the government website on Thursday, would apply to guest workers cleared by authorities, in a group, to complete a specific investment, the National Economy Ministry said.

The number of affected guest workers would apply to the overall quota of non-European Union nationals allowed to work in the country, it added. The ministry noted that guest workers accounted for just 2.8pc of the people employed in Hungary, under the rates of 4.3pc in Slovakia, 6.8pc in Poland and 16pc in Czechia.
