Hungarian government supports the speedy EU integration of Moldova
Ties between Hungary and Moldova offer “great investment opportunities”, the agriculture minister said in Chisinau on Thursday, adding that Hungary had a vested interest in Moldova’s speedy European Union integration.
At talks with his Moldovan counterpart, Vladimir Bolea, István Nagy noted that agriculture is a strategic sector in both countries. He said there was room for expansion in agricultural ties, in cooperation “on the issue of Ukrainian agricultural products”, on irrigation know-how, precision agricultural technology and drones and on the matter of drought-resilient plants, according to a ministry statement. During its European Union presidency starting in July, Hungary will work to set up a process protecting the producers and the market, Nagy said.
“The primary interest is to facilitate market access.” Hungary will also provide an opportunity for Moldova to “talk about their thoughts and concers” in front of EU agricultural ministers, he added. The ministers also signed an agreement, which Nagy said would ensure more security for Hungarian agri-companies already in the country “and open the gates for further investments”. Nagy also met Deputy Prime Minister Dumitru Alaiba, the minister for economic development and digitalisation.
At the talks, they said economic developments involving new, precision and digital technology offered vast opportunities, and pledged to protect and boost investments between the two countries. Talks are slated to resume in Budapest in the near future, the ministry statement said.

This is one of the few Fidesz initiatives that I can agree with. The big big problem is internationally unrecognized Transnistria which split off from Moldova in 1991 as a Russian dominated enclave stuffed full of Lenin monuments, 1000 Russian troops and a government that is best described as gangster. It’s like a micro Kaliningrad stuck inside the area of the West which Putin will hold onto at all costs. The Russian troops actually rotate by coming in as tourists through Moldova. It’s a completely ridiculous situation. That enclave should be complete sealed off from Russia preventing their military from getting in. In a perfect world the evil Russians would be purged out of there. Unfortunately Europe is not going to do that and likely Transnistria is lost to Russia doomed to live in misery while the rest of Moldova will be integrated into the EU. Putin is trying to destabilize Moldova. For him it would be a nightmare for Moldova to become a prosperous example that the residents of Transnistria will envy causing them to support reunification and tell the Russians to leave.
