Hungarian government to prioritise setting up EU cardiovascular strategy during presidency

During its European Union presidency starting on July 1, Hungary will work to set up a European cardiovascular strategy, the state secretary for health care said on Monday.

At the inauguration of a hybrid operating room at the Cardiology and Heart Surgery Clinic of the Debrecen University, in eastern Hungary, Péter Takács praised Debrecen’s outpatient care, saying it set an example for reforms nationwide.

He said the university, which participated in the government-backed reform, is supported by both the government and the municipality.

Zoltán Csanádi, the clinic’s director, said that the upgrade was funded by 400 million forints (EUR 1m) in EU resources and 500 million forints from the university’s coffers. The room is equipped to handle complex procedures, “from catheter examinations to open-heart surgery”, without moving the patient, he said.
