Hungarian Honorary Consulate Opens in Southern Romania
Bucharest, October 7 (MTI) – Hungary opened an honorary consulate in Drobeta-Turnu Severin (Szorenyvar) in southern Romania to be headed by local businessman Endre Molnar, who has been living in the Danube town for several decades.
Hungarian ambassador in Bucharest Botond Zakonyi said that since the Danube bridge between Romania’s Calafat and Bulgaria’s Vidin opened, transit trade and tourism have significantly increased near the Iron Gate and the southern parts of the Banat region.
Zakonyi expressed hope that Romania would change its position and consent to opening a Hungarian consular office in Targu Mures (Marosvasarhely), which would operate as a branch of the consulate-general in Miercurea Ciuc (Csikszereda).
