Budapest, July 20 (MTI) – Hungary’s hospitals performed a total 497 organ transplants last year, the head of the Hungarian Transplant Association told a press conference on Wednesday.

Edit Szederkényi said that the operations included 343 kidney transplants, 89 liver, 51 heart and 13 combined kidney and pancreas transplants, as well as the first lung transplant in Hungary at the end of the year. She added that seven further lung transplants have been performed since then.

In Hungary, the first ever transplant operation was performed in 1973. So far, 8,957 such operations have been completed.
