A man on Hungary’s top-50 wanted list who had been hiding from the authorities for 11 years has been captured in Germany, police.hu said on Wednesday.
The National Bureau of Investigations said the 33-year-old committed armed robbery as part of a gang, and a Székesfehérvár court handed down prison sentences of 11 years for armed robbery and 2 years for other crimes.
He absconded in November 2010 and a European Arrest Warrant was issued.
Investigators contacted the Austrian and German authorities within the European Network of Fugitive Active Search Teams (ENFAST), and he was discovered in Fussen, Germany, under a different identity.
A coordinated arrest by German, Austrian and Hungarian police took place on Monday in the Bavarian town of Schwangau, and the German authorities will make a decision concerning his extradition at a later date, the police statement said.
